Maori language dictionary selling fast

He Pataka Kupu, the monolingual Maori dictionary recently published by Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Maori (The Maori Language Commission) can be ordered from Unity Books bookstores across the country.

You can order He Pataka Kupu from Unity Books by calling 0800 4 UNITY, or by email – books@unitybooks.co.nz

He Pataka Kupu can be purchased for $65 with an additional freight cost of $5 per book. A 10% discount is available for orders of ten or more and Unity Books will advise freighting costs for bulk orders.

“We are aware that there has been difficulty in purchasing He Pataka Kupu. Most bookstores sold out quite quickly after the 1 September launch. We are grateful that Unity Books are able to make this facility available”, says Huhana Rokx, Chief Executive of Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Maori.

“For Maori language speakers everywhere it will make a very good Christmas present”, says Huhana Rokx.

The dictionary is the culmination of seven years work from a team of dedicated writers. He Pataka Kupu is 1,200 pages and has 24,000 entries which include synonyms, tribal variants and some of the more recent developments in Maori language.

He Pataka Kupu is one of the largest monolingual dictionaries ever to be published in the Pacific, and is the largest of its size and genre to be published in New Zealand.
